Frederick W. Piasecki

As a youth, Frederick W. Piasecki was intrigued by the history and underlying physics of flight. At flight school, he earned his private pilot rating and pursued ratings in seaplanes, instruments and rotorcraft. Fred interned at Piasecki Aircraft Corporation as a Designer and Data Reduction Engineer while studying physics and engineering at Boston University. Graduating in 1984, he began working on his father’s designs, employing innovative research and testing, all while managing and directing engineering teams within PiAC. As Project Engineer, Fred played an integral part in developing and engineering innovative design solutions to often unexplored areas of VTOL, STOL, UAVs and alternative energy and transportation systems for the DoD and commercial operators. In 1991, Fred became Vice President of Technology, and in 2008, he became CTO and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Fred holds three patents in VTOL and Wind Turbine Technology and has published over 100 technical papers on rotorcraft design. He is Director of the American Helicopter Museum and Education Center, and a member of the American Helicopter Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Fred and his wife Cathy live in suburban Philadelphia and have three children.
